Our Sicilian wine discoveries receive international recognition.
There are moments in our journey when we stop, smile, and think: this is exactly why we do what we do.
We have just received some fantastic news from two of the Sicilian wineries that La Sicilyana proudly represents here in the UK: Castellucci Miano and Cantine De Gregorio.
Both wineries have achieved excellent results at Vinitaly, one of the most important wine fairs in the world and a true benchmark for Italian wine.
Every year, Vinitaly publishes 5StarWines – The Book, recognising wines that achieve 90 points or more after being judged by an international panel of wine experts through three days of blind tastings.
Of course, awards are never the only reason we choose a wine. At La Sicilyana, every bottle in our collection has a story. With Steven and my family, we taste, discuss, and carefully select wines because we believe in the people who make them and in the quality inside the bottle.
But when those choices are recognised by an international panel of experts… we have to admit, it feels very special!
Castellucci Miano has been part of our collection since 2017, and we couldn’t be happier to see their dedication rewarded.
Four of their wines have been included in 5StarWines – The Book — almost their entire range. This is a remarkable achievement and a wonderful reflection of the consistency, passion, and quality behind their work.
We have always loved Castellucci Miano wines, and our customers clearly agree: Miano Catarratto is one of our best sellers.
Their wines perfectly express the unique character of Sicily, combining native grapes, high-altitude vineyards, and a deep respect for the land.
Cantine De Gregorio is a more recent addition to our selection, but they immediately caught our attention as a small, quality family business.
Their Rosa di Nero has been selected for 5StarWines – The Book, and we are delighted to see this beautiful and slightly unexpected rosé receive recognition.
Made from two indigenous Sicilian red grapes — Perricone and Nerello Mascalese — it is a perfect example of how Sicilian wines can surprise you. Fresh, elegant, and full of character, it shows that rosé wines can be much more than a simple summer drink.
We won’t hide it: we love being proved right!
Finding small, passionate Sicilian producers, tasting their wines, bringing them to the UK, and sharing them with people who appreciate authentic wines from Sicily is exactly what we love to do.
