Vineyards & sunny Sicily: Casa Grazia
January is the only month when Steven and I can take both time off from our bistro to rest and relax. Sicily is an obvious destination to visit my family and the lovely people who make the wonderful wines we are proud to import.
After visiting Cantine De Gregorio, we left Sciacca and drove the southern Sicilian coastline for 2 and a half hours, destination Gela.
Gela was the first Greek's Sicilian colony, now a busy small town and HQ of Casa Grazia, our very last addition to the la Sicilyana wine collection at the bistro and online shop.
A wonderful "boutique" (and our smallest) winery located on the side of a salted lake, with a production of only 90,000 bottles.
In the setting of the protected Natural Reserve of the Biviere Lake, Casa Grazia bottles the fruit of a unique terroir where dunes, wind and sea let good grapes mature.
Casa Grazia’s story begins from a dream and it all begins in early 1900, when the Brunetti family starts the cultivation - among olive groves and orchards - of wine-grapes and table-grapes.
The owner Maria Grazia, her family and dedicated team create great wines in a stunning location. We have already sold out all their wines since their first appearance in our wine list only last autumn.
The export manager Nicolò and the team could not have been more welcoming. Steven and I had a great tour of the building, tasted the new vintage of their frappato rosé (and more 😉) straight from the tanks.
Then we tasted more wine enjoying some delicious lunch and honestly, we were in heaven! 🥰
We will soon restock the sold out wines, plus adding some new labels we are very impressed with, and very look forward for our customers to taste them too! 🍷
